Brittany “Scout” Byrtus recently completed her Bachelor’s degree in Filmmaking: A Method for International Understanding at Western Washington University. She spent the year before in Japan for a direct exchange where she was an Assistant Director, Boom Operator, and Production Assistant for three film noir style shorts shot in and around Tokyo.

Brittany is passionate about all aspects of the filmmaking process, from conception to completion. Her first job was at a movie theater where she learned the rare art of threading a projector with real film! She has also worked for the Sundance Film Festival.

When she is not driving and production assisting for Hand Crank Films, she can be found volunteering in her local film community on various projects and in various capacities. Scout has a passion for learning new skills, great stories, meeting new people and traveling to exciting places.
